QMaker is a tool to

  • create online interactive questions to spice up reading material
  • create online tests that after completion, compile and send the students' results to the creator of the test.

Add New Question (Create a Question)

To get started, click Add New Question. Qmaker allows for multiple choice (up to 7 choices), matching (up to 10 pairs), select all that apply (up to 10 choice), or write in answers.

At any time you can save your completed questions to a '.qjb' file that you can open later to resume the project.

Open an existing '.qjb' file with question(s). You can also combine multiple past quizzes by using the 'Add Questions from File to Existing Questions' button that appears once you have a question completed in the current quiz.

Single Interactive Question

To create an interactive question such as the ones on the GSS site, just create a single question and leave the default settings (no score screen and not a test). This will allow for a question to be put on a site that will simply give comments or feedback to students' answers.

To put an interactive question on your website

Once you have completed making an interactive question with Qmaker, you can embed question on your web page by

  • pressing the HTML button at the top
  • copying the html snippet from the popup that appears
  • pasting the HTML snippet into the HTML of you webpage to embed the question.

Creating a multi-question test or quiz

With Qmaker you can create a scored test or quiz that will store the students' answers and scores  and then email them to you in a format suitable for pasting into a spreadsheet. To set up a test, make all of the questions and select the 'Make Quiz into Test' checkbox. Then enter your email address into the email field and click 'Publish Test and Email Results' to create the test. This may take a little while as it creates the test in the database. A popup will then appear with the HTML snippet that you can embed on your website for the students to take the test. To get the results of the test, go to the page where you embedded the test applet and type your same email address that you gave before into the "Name" field and it will send all results to that email address.

To put questions on a Google Site

On a Google site, you must use an embed gadget to attach the question or test. Edit the page, choose the insert option, click 'more gadgets', and then search for the 'Embed Gadget'. Add the Embed Gadget to the page and paste the html snippet into the Embed Gadget. Save the changes and the question or test will now be present on the page.

Adding Images

An image can be placed in the question in the form <<imageurl>> at the very beginning of the question replacing 'imageurl' with the url to the image. It will show up in the question as a resized thumbnail that when clicked will popup the full image. Images can also be embedded into answer comments in the same way. Only one image is allowed per comment.

Putting web links into feedback comments

In feedback comments, you also have the option of adding links to external pages in the form <<<name:url>>> immediately following the image if used otherwise at the very beginning of the comment. The link will show up as a button in the comment with the given 'name' on it and it will link to the 'url'. Do not put spaces between the embedded links or image. You can embed as many links as you like.
